New Development Officer to Work with Young Alumni

Friday, May 10, 2013 - 9:13am

Elizabeth Ashmore

Elizabeth Ashmore is UTSD’s new assistant director of development.

Elizabeth Ashmore has joined The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston as assistant director of development, a newly created position.  She will help cultivate and expand the school’s base of philanthropic support, working to engage younger alumni while also strengthening relationships with the school’s current supporters.

She began her job May 1 and works in the Office of Development & Communications, reporting to John Greer, executive director of development.

A native of Arlington, Ashmore holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from UT-Austin. She was most recently employed with the American Cancer Society in Fort Worth, where she recruited, trained and guided hundreds of volunteers for Relay for Life events, successfully achieving an aggressive fundraising goal to further the society’s mission. The job also introduced her to many different types of fundraising and development — experience that directly relates to her role at UTSD.

Greer said Ashmore’s experience, skill set and personality are well-suited for the new position.  “Elizabeth spent years in the challenging environment of cause-related development, and her work history illustrates a determination to succeed,” he noted.

Dean John A. Valenza, DDS, said the School of Dentistry’s now-concluded Open to Health fundraising initiative yielded many new donors, and an additional development officer was needed for stewardship of those participants and to help build the next generation of donor support.

“For the School of Dentistry to achieve its full potential, we need additional scholarships, endowed faculty positions, and support for the new UTSD Impact Fund and many other priorities,” Valenza said. “Elizabeth will play a vital role in identifying and cultivating those resources. She’s a hard worker with an engaging personality and a proven track record, and I know she’ll be a tremendous asset to the school.”

Since arriving at UTSD, Ashmore said she has been impressed by the commitment to taking the school to the next level.  “People here are striving to be the best of the best,” she said. “This is an institution on the move, and it’s a really exciting place to be right now.”

She will office in Suite 6152. Contact her at 713-486-4381 or
