UTSD dental student Nick Ayoade does an oral health screening at the Kingdom Builder’s Church Health Fair.
In the midst of final exams, five University of Texas School of Dentistry students and two faculty members donated a Sunday afternoon to screen patients at the Kingdom Builder’s Church Health Fair in early December as a community service activity for the Beta Eta Chapter of Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity.
Dental students Austin Anderson, Nicholas Ayoade, Justin Tullis, Gregory Luk and Chad Fruithandler worked with Alpha Omega faculty sponsors June Sadowsky, DDS, MPH, and Paul Levine, DDS, to provide oral health screenings and oral hygiene instructions at the Kingdom Builder’s Church Health Fair.
The event was led by Be Covered Texas, a campaign underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield to introduce uninsured Americans to new health insurance options available under the Affordable Care Act.
After receiving oral hygiene instruction, a few patients were selected to receive fluoride varnish kits. All were referred to receive comprehensive oral care at UTSD.
