Dental hygiene students from The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston have been going out into the community to teach oral health and share information about the School of Dentistry’s services.
On April 3, dental hygiene students An-Chih “Angela” Wan, Tan Ngo and James Sun took part in a health fair at Ridgecrest Elementary School in Spring Branch ISD, and in March, first-year dental hygiene students Denise Murray, Heather Ellis and Skyler Jones attended the Second Annual Family First Health Fair at Booker T. Washington High School.

Some of the attendees had been patients at UTSD, and many others were interested in becoming patients, so the students described the school’s services and steps for becoming patients and distributed referral cards, educational materials and oral hygiene kits.
At the Family First Health Fair in March, dental hygiene students Denise Murray, Heather Ellis and Skyler Jones joined with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s North Harris County Chapter to provide health-related services to more than 300 attendees. The dental hygiene students provided oral hygiene instructions and demonstrated proper brushing and flossing techniques using typodonts (artificial teeth).
