Dr. Robert Debes holds a copy of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery’s published history, covering 1949-1999. An update for 2000-2015 is in the works.
A new book updating the history of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston from 2000-2015 is in the works and needs a name.
Clinical Professor Robert R. Debes, DDS, and Clinical Associate Professor Donald P. Butler, DDS, are working on the as-yet-unnamed sequel to their original departmental history, “Looking Back: A History of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Training Program of The University of Texas – Houston 1949-1999.” A PDF version of the first book is on the departmental website.
Debes has been on the School of Dentistry faculty since 1956 and was a witness to much of the department’s history, but he and Butler are collecting information from other sources as well.
Rather than giving the new book the old name and simply designating it “volume II,” they are hoping to come up with a new title. Send ideas to Robert.R.Debes@uth.tmc.edu, or contact the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at 713-486-4125.
Like the original volume, the sequel will be published by The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Printing & Media Services.
