Health Educators Fellowship Program (HEFP)

The Health Educators Fellowship Program (HEFP) is designed to expand the teaching skills of participating faculty and enhance the educational mission of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. This certificate program includes a collaborative relationship with The University of Texas Medical School, School of Biomedical Informatics, School of Dentistry, School of Nursing and School of Public Health at Houston. The program accepts applicants every other year and the curriculum extends over an 18-month period.

We view the HEFP as a life-long commitment to masterful teaching – your own and your colleagues. The sponsoring schools expect higher levels of involvement, insight, and leadership from this special group of educators. Fellows from the previous class are moving forward with obtaining additional degrees in education, engaging in leadership activities and promoting educational scholarship.

The goal of HEFP is to support a life-long commitment to masterful teaching by:

  1. Applying current education theory to educational practices;
  2. Identifying and reflecting on personal educational/teaching philosophy and how that shapes learner interactions;
  3. Collaborating with fellow participants to identify common areas of interest and to develop professional relationships and interactions;
  4. Developing a project reflecting sound educational theory/practice that will benefit your personal career path;
  5. Applying leadership principles and skills to educational endeavors that benefit your school;
  6. Utilizing and implementing peer review processes in your school.
