Dr Ezinne Ogbureke is a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor level at The University of Texas School of dentistry in Houston, Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health. She obtained a Bachelor in Dental Surgery (BDS) from The University of Nigeria, School of Dentistry, Enugu Nigeria in 1991 and a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston Massachusetts in 1999. Her experience spans from private practice to community dental practice including mobile dental van practice in Maryland. Her academic career started as an instructor with the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston after which she went into private practice and then back to teaching at the Georgia Regents University College of Dental Medicine in Augusta, Georgia, before moving to Houston Texas. She is passionate about medical consideration in management of dental patients, oral cancer screening and oral manifestation of systemic diseases as standard of care in dental practice and hopes to pass this on to the Dental and Dental Hygiene students she has the opportunity to teach.

She received the Deans’ small grants award in 2014 for a funded study titled “Evaluating Dental and Dental Hygiene student’s ability to perform a Head and Neck exam and identify oral lesions in everyday clinical practice”. She has collaborated with various colleagues and published manuscripts on a variety of topics and also co-authored a chapter in a book published in 2015, “History of Salivary Proteomics. In: Salivary Proteomics” (Ed. Streckfus CF). Heidelburg: Springer Press; 2015, pp 17-32. She continues to mentor students in table clinics and presentations in local and national meetings and is also very involved in community dental health screenings; treatments and education with students and student groups. Her teaching philosophy is “Treat the teeth, but also take a keen look at the surrounding soft tissues”. Ezinne is married to the love of her life Kalu and they have 4 Children: Chinasa, Kalu Jr, Erinma and David and for leisure she likes to listen to music and dance.
