Ms. Jayne McWherter, RDH, MEd is an Associate Professor and the Dental Hygiene Program Director in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Dentistry (UTSD). She has practiced dental hygiene for 40 years which includes practicing in private practice as well as working for the City of Houston Public Health Department/Dental Services as a hygienist in public health clinics. Ms. McWherter has been a full-time faculty member at UTSD for 28 years. She graduated from UTSD with a certificate in Dental Hygiene in 1975, received her Bachelor of Science in Health Care Sciences degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, School of Allied Health Sciences in 1981, and received her Master of Education degree from the University of Houston in 1985. While at UTSD she has been recognized for her teaching including being inducted as an inaugural member of the Dean's Distinguished Teaching Scholars in the category of "Innovation in Teaching". Ms. McWherter teaches in PreClinic and Clinical courses and currently serves as course director of Ethics and Jurisprudence in the on-campus dental hygiene program as well as Healthcare Ethics online in the distance education dental hygiene degree completion program.
