Joanna Allaire is an Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene. She joined the faculty in 2007 after a long and varied career in private practice, including 14 years in a progressive periodontal practice. Ms. Allaire graduated from UTSD in 1978 with a certificate in dental hygiene and obtained her BSDH from UTSD in 2007 and a Master of Dental Hygiene from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2012.
She is currently the second-year clinic coordinator and she teaches Periodontology. She received the Lorna J. Bruning Award for Outstanding Teaching in 2010 and 2012, the Dean's Teaching Excellence Award for Innovation in Teaching in 2013, and the Texas Teaching Excellence Award sponsored by Procter and Gamble in 2014. She has also been inducted into the Dean’s Academy of Distinguished Teaching Scholars. Ms. Allaire is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association and the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists' Society, where she has held numerous leadership positions, including president.
