Dr. DeYoung is an Assistant Director, Children and Family Services for the Houston Department of Health and Human Services (HDHHS). In this position, she oversees the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program; the Harris County Area Agency on Aging; and the Human Services Program. Additionally, she manages the HDHHS Bureau of Oral Health operations. Since 1999, she has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston - School of Dentistry. The HDHHS has five safety net dental operations where it serves indigent and at-risk children, perinatal women, and seniors over 60 years of age. It is within the HDHHS’ safety net dental clinics where the UTSD students and residents provide dental services.

Having practiced as an Oncology nurse for six years, Dr. DeYoung began dental school. She graduated from UTSD in 1985, and has primarily practiced in the area of public health. While at University of Wisconsin - Madison, she developed an interest in public health while pursuing its public health nursing curriculum. In 2002, she completed an MPH from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston -School of Public Health.
