Dr. Ngozi N. Nwizu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Diagnostic and Biomedical Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Dentistry. She obtained her dental degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and a Master of Medical Science degree in Oral Pathology from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, UK, where she was a recipient of a prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship. Dr. Nwizu completed her residency program in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and received her specialty certification from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

As a postgraduate resident, she was awarded the William M. Feagans Clinical Postgraduate Scholarship. Subsequently, Dr. Nwizu earned her doctorate degree in Pathology (Cancer Epidemiology Track) from the State University of New York at Buffalo (Roswell Park Cancer Institute Graduate Division). Her research focused on the association between periodontal disease and risk of overall cancer, as well as many site-specific cancers; and explored the role of chronic inflammation as a plausible mechanistic link.

She is a board certified diplomat of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral Medicine. Dr. Nwizu’s current research interests are in periodontal disease, oral microbiome and cancer risk. She is also interested in improved treatment modalities for head and neck cancers, novel approaches to reduce cancer, and treatment-related morbidities.
