Dr. Silva is an endodontist with a PhD in oral sciences and postdoctoral training in human molecular genetics. Dr. Silva joined The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) faculty in 2011 as an associate professor at the Department of Endodontics at the School of Dentistry. He also holds an adjunct faculty position in the Pediatric Research Center at the Medical School. Dr. Silva’s laboratory focuses on two distinct projects: Genetics of craniofacial anomalies, and genetic susceptibility of periapical disease.The results of both projects may lead to the development of future diagnostic tools and contribute to disease prevention and individualized treatment planning in the future.
Dr. Silva has edited a textbook on Endodontic retreatment and has published several peer-reviewed articles in the field of Endodontics and Human Genetics.
Dr. Silva was recently appointed as Director of Clinical Simulation at the School of Dentistry, and he looks forward to establishing a strong research program related to the use of technology in dental education.
