Richard "Hal" Halpin is Manager of Educational Technology for the Technology Services and Informatics Department at UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston. He is responsible for all systems and software used to teach students at the school, including Blackboard, ExamSoft, Panopto and TurningPoint Audience Response System. He has extensive experience in adult education and can advise faculty on the best routes to integrate technology into their teaching.
Hal's educational interests include assessing the effectiveness of the integration of technology into teaching, improving faculty understanding of assessment techniques, increasing student outcomes in health science education, and using digital stories as a means of assessment.
Hal has an undergraduate degree in Archaeology from Bradford University in the U.K. and previously worked for the police. Since coming to the U.S., he has earned a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Houston and is currently working on a doctorate. He runs a successful tabletop gaming website and loves games of all kinds, particularly role-playing and board games.
