The UTHealth School of Dentistry is located in the Texas Medical Center (TMC), the world's largest medical complex with 48 member institutions dedicated to the highest quality in patient care, research and education.
The current UT School of Dentistry building opened in 2011 and consists of 305,000 square feet in a self-contained six floor building which includes a clinical simulation and learning center, multipurpose lab, lecture rooms, television studio, faculty offices, administrative offices, clinical treatment areas and a library. UTSD shares 20,000 square feet of wet lab research space with the Behavioral and Biomedical Sciences Building by connecting the two buildings on the fourth and fifth floor. Also, the Denton A. & Ralph C. Cooley Conference Center (14,000 square feet) sits adjacent to the campus and serves as a multipurpose venue for UTHealth faculty, students, and staff, the institutions of the Texas Medical Center, and the Houston community at large.
The most advanced equipment and educational technology are available at the School of Dentistry. For example, our Clinical Simulation and Learning Center was the first in the world to incorporate electronic patient records, multi-media and mannequins in an actual clinic setting. Our students can treat virtual patients complete with demographics, medical histories, digital X-rays, photographs and even digital models.
One hundred predoctoral students are admitted to the School of Dentistry each year. The school year consists of two 18 week semesters and one eight-week summer session.
