UTHealth Houston named a Houston Chronicle 2023 Top Workplace

For the ninth time, UTHealth Houston has earned the Top Workplaces designation from the Houston Chronicle. The university is listed among the best large organizations in the city.

Energage, the selected vendor, surveyed Houston organizations and benchmarked them by size to compare similar employee experiences and determine the rankings. Based solely on anonymous employee feedback, the survey measures workplace experience using culture and employee engagement drivers. More than half of university employees took the time and commitment to participate in the 2022 employee survey.

“This recognition is a testament to the amazing people who make up our organization,” said Karen Spillar, JD, UTHealth Houston vice president and chief human resources officer. “UTHealth Houston is building our reputation as a workplace of choice. It is a privilege to be recognized in this way by our outstanding workforce.”

UTHealth Houston ranked No. 22 among organizations with 500 or more local employees.  

UTHealth Houston focuses on improving organizational culture and engaging employees with resources and programs that empower them to achieve career and personal goals. The university has numerous professional development programs that continually improve the work experience and culture and help faculty, staff, and researchers advance their careers to prepare for the future.

Programs include the UTHealth Houston Leadership Institutes, including the Women in Leadership Seminar SeriesEmerging Leaders InstituteExecutive Leadership Institute, and the Leadership Institute Mentorship Program.

UTHealth Houston also provides targeted management and supervisory training through the Management Development Academy to more than 1,500 clinical and administrative managers, and offers LinkedIn Learning, which has a digital library of more than 16,000 courses and 150 learning paths covering a range of topics to enhance professional and personal growth and development.

Additionally, Employee Assistance and Well-being Programs provide valuable mental health and well-being support. There are financial resources available — such as Your Money Line, a spending and debt management program provided free of charge to all UTHealth Houston employees and family members.
