Professor Juliana A. Barros, DDS, MS, has been named assistant dean for clinical education at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, effective July 1, after serving in an interim role since August 2024.
Since taking on the interim role, she has overseen all aspects of clinical teaching within the predoctoral dental program. Over the past year, she worked closely with academic and clinical leaders across the school to enhance the clinical curriculum and competency assessment framework. She also helped develop and enforce clinical protocols aligned with the School of Dentistry’s Standards of Care and departmental practice guidelines.
Barros has fostered a supportive, high-performance clinical environment and successfully hosted the ADEX Clinical Licensure Exam, which resulted in a 97% pass rate.
Barros joined the School of Dentistry faculty in 2008. She earned her dental degree from the University of Uberaba in Brazil and completed postgraduate training in restorative dentistry from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She Barros received a master’s degree in laser dentistry from the Nuclear and Energy Research Institute and the University of São Paulo in Brazil.
