Dental hygiene student Priscilla Perez of UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry has been named the 2023 recipient of the HDA Foundation/Colgate-Palmolive Dental Hygiene Scholarship.

The $2,500 scholarship is awarded for the meritorious work of a promising student who seeks scientific and applied clinical knowledge during their academic journey of their dental professional program.

“I’m extremely grateful and honored to be the recipient of the HDA Foundation/Colgate-Palmolive Dental Hygiene Scholarship,” said Perez, member of the Dental Hygiene Class of 2024. “As a first-generation Hispanic student, this scholarship will offer me financial support in my last year of dental hygiene school.”

The scholarship is open to members of the Hispanic Dental Association or the Hispanic Student Dental Association.

“I will continue to further the vision of HDA to improve the overall health of undeserved communities by continuing to volunteer,” Perez said. “Volunteering for the community has shown me that people struggle and little things like a volunteer event gives them hope that there are people out there trying to help undeserved communities.”

Perez was presented the scholarship in September at the 2023 HDA Student Regional at the UNC Adams School of Dentistry.
