The American Dental Association (ADA) named Katie Sowa Stuchlik, DDS, a 2015 alumna of UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston, among the recipients of the 2021 10 Under 10 Award. This award honors 10 dentists who are making an impact on the profession less than 10 years after graduating from dental school.
Out of more than 100 submissions, Stuchlik was selected for her impact in the dental industry and Houston community.
Stuchlik is a co-owner of Dentistry of the Oaks, a dental practice in Northwest Houston, where she focuses on comprehensive general dentistry with fellow co-owner and UTSD alumna Lindsey L. Wendt, DDS ’15.
Stuchlik is on the advocacy council for the Texas Academy of Dentistry and is a new dentist liaison to the council for the annual meeting and continuing dental education programs for the Texas Dental Association. She was also the immediate past president of the Houston Academy of General Dentistry.
In September, Stuchlik was named the Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s 2020 Texas New Dentist of the Year.
Stuchlik has published many articles for the American Student Dental Association, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, and writes for the ADA’s forum, “New Dentists Now.” She gives back to the Houston communities through volunteering with the Junior League of Houston, providing dental services at numerous dentistry outreach programs, and has raised over $10,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
A Houston native, Stuchlik graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with degrees in human development and radio-television-film, all the while serving as the university’s costumed mascot, “Hook ’Em.” She worked in a research lab at Baylor College of Medicine prior to attending UTSD.
While in dental school, Stuchlik served in several leadership positions within the American Student Dental Association and was honored with the International College of Dentists’ Student Leadership Award upon graduating.
