Superior oral health is vital for a child's development and we're here to help every step of the way!
Pediatric dental care at UT-Houston is carried out in two locations.
The School of Dentistry (SOD) Student Pediatric Dentistry Clinic is where services are performed by pre-doctoral students (students learning to be general dentists) under the careful supervision of our attending clinical faculty. Patients are accepted to the School of Dentistry Pediatric Dentistry Clinic based on their need for either comprehensive ("complete") or limited care. Here the students carry out all routine dental procedures on medically healthy children. The patient age range accepted is from 6 to 18 years of age.
The Houston Medical Center Pediatric Dentistry Clinic (HMC) is offsite from the dental school and is a separate dental office located in the heart of the Houston Medical Center. This clinic is the location for the Postgraduate Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program Practice, where graduated general dentists now learning to be pediatric dental specialists provide the patient care under the supervision of experienced pediatric dentists. The scope of care here includes all pediatric dental procedures including the use of office sedation and hospital general anesthesia. Care for children with unique medical, physical or mental needs is also provided here. The patient age range for new patients is from newborn until 18 years of age (and may be extended for those with special needs).
The HMC Pediatric Dentistry Clinic is also the location for the Pediatric Dentistry Faculty Practice, where faculty members of the University of Texas Houston School of Dentistry Pediatric Dentistry Department provide patient care. Appointments are very limited so the care is usually focused on the younger ages (0-5 years of age) and especially those with craniofacial anomalies.
