Yuki Arai, DDS, PhD, a research fellow in the Ono Tooth Laboratory at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, has been named a 2022 recipient of the ASBMR Fund for Research and Education Young Investigator Award.

The Young Investigator Award is presented to young investigators who are the first and presenting author of the highest-ranking abstracts within each category submitted for the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research Annual Meeting. Arai was selected in the “Osteoporosis Therapy: Mechanisms of Action and Novel Targets” category for his abstract presentation, titled “Bisphophonates induce permanent defects in tooth root formation and long-term disruption in tooth eruption by inhibiting PTHrP-expressing dental follicle in growing molars.”

The ASBMR Fund for Research and Education is supported by individual donations. Donations are used exclusively to provide research grants and training opportunities for basic and clinical researchers as well as allied health professionals specializing in the bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal field.

The Ono Tooth Laboratory is under the direction of Wanida Ono, DDS, DMSc, PhD.
