Chang named director of predoctoral periodontics

Assistant Professor Jennifer Chang, DDS, MSD, has been named director of predoctoral periodontics at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene Chair Nikola Angelov, DDS, PhD, announced effective Jan. 1, 2022.

“I’m very excited and pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jennifer Chang as our new director of predoctoral periodontics,” said Angelov, holder of the Raul G. Caffesse, DDS, MS, DrOdont, Distinguished Professorship in Periodontics. “She has proven to be a true professional and consummate team player in her time here at UTHealth School of Dentistry. Although her role is changing, I know she will continue to provide advice, guidance, and mentoring to our students.”

Chang succeeds Karo Parsegian, DMD, PhD, MDSc, who served as the predoctoral periodontics director from 2020 to 2021.

“I’m appreciative of and humbled by the confidence Dr. Angelov has in me with this new role,” said Chang. “Dr. Parsegian led the program admirably in the face of unprecedented challenges amidst a global pandemic. I hope to build upon the foundation that he and those before him have established and work for the benefit of our students, the periodontics department, and the dental school.”

Chang joined the School of Dentistry faculty in 2018.

She completed her doctor of dental surgery degree and two years of general practice residency in Taiwan. Chang obtained her clinical training and master of science in dentistry degree in periodontology and dental implant surgery from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 2018.

Chang is a board-certified diplomate from the American Board of Periodontology and specializes in periodontal therapy and implant dentistry with UT Dentists.

She diligently serves on various local, national, and international endeavors. Her dedication to teaching, research, and service have been recognized by several grants and awards.

Additionally, she has published articles in various clinical research journals.

“I feel truly blessed to be part of this big UTHealth family,” said Chang. “The exceptional students and colleagues here motivate me to continue to provide advice, guidance, and mentoring in service to our students and the School of Dentistry.”
