Assistant Professor Michelle Aguilos Thompson, DDS, GPR '14, has been named director of digital dentistry at UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston. She had been serving in that role since May as the school implemented nearly $1 million in new technology and has now transitioned to a full-time appointment in the Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health.

Thompson is a 2012 graduate of Howard University College of Dentistry and completed UTHealth's General Practice Residency program in 2014. Since then, she has practiced dentistry in the Houston area and served as a part-time clinical assistant professor for both the GPR and Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) programs at the School of Dentistry. She has a passion for teaching and has already been training students and faculty on Planmeca's (E4D) CAD/CAM technology throughout the summer, in collaboration with UTHealth faculty who comprise the digital leadership team.

Thompson has been an active leader in organized dentistry since her undergraduate years at the University of Houston and currently serves on the American Dental Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, the Texas Dental Association’s Strategic Affairs Committee, the Greater Houston Dental Society Board of Directors, and as chair of the Hispanic Dental Association's Media Committee. She was nominated for the ADA's 10 Under 10 Award and the Texas Academy of General Dentistry’s New Dentist of the Year Award in 2016, 2018, and 2019.

She and her husband, UTHealth endodontics alum Jason Thompson, DDS, MS ’18, are parents of a 2-year-old toddler.
