Dowlatshahi honored at AAP Annual Meeting

Sahar Dowlatshahi, DDS, MMSc, was recognized at the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Periodontology in Toronto.

Sahar Dowlatshahi, DDS, MMSc, assistant professor in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, received two prestigious awards at the American Academy of Periodontology Annual Meeting in Toronto.

Dowlatshahi was honored with the AAP Foundation Teaching Fellowship Award, which recognizes young periodontal educators for exceptional commitment to academic leadership, innovation in teaching, and student mentorship. The fellowship includes $25,000 to strengthen teaching skills and support a long-term career in academic periodontics.

She also received the AAP Foundation Fellowship to the Institute for Teaching and Learning in the Health Professions. This $3,500 tuition fellowship provides advanced training in curriculum design, assessment strategies, and leadership development for health professions education.

“These honors reflect Dr. Dowlatshahi’s dedication to educational excellence and her passion for mentoring future dental professionals,” said Nikola Angelov, DDS, MS, PhD, chair of the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene. “Her achievements exemplify the values of our department and the School of Dentistry.”

The AAP Foundation awards recognize individuals who demonstrate innovation and leadership in advancing periodontal education and patient care.
