The Dental Hygiene Program at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry prepares students to succeed in a range of oral health care settings. Designed to meet students where they are in their professional journey, the program offers high-quality education, hands-on clinical training, and flexible learning options to match diverse goals and experience levels. 

Program Options

  • Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (BSDH)
    A full-time, entry-level program for students who have completed 62 hours of prerequisite coursework. This track provides comprehensive education and clinical experience to prepare students for licensure and professional practice. 
  • Post-Degree Certificate in Dental Hygiene
    Designed for individuals who already hold a college degree in another field and want to become licensed dental hygienists without earning a second bachelor’s degree.
  • Master of Science in Dental Hygiene (MSDH)
    A graduate-level program focused on leadership, education, research, and public health. The MSDH degree prepares hygienists for advanced roles in academia, policy, and clinical excellence.
     

Dual and Interdisciplinary Opportunities 

  • BSDH/MPH Concurrent Enrollment
    BSDH students may pursue a Master of Public Health through concurrent enrollment with UTHealth Houston School of Public Health, expanding their impact in community health and public policy.
