Courtney Routh joined UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry in 2023 as an Assistant Professor in the Dental Hygiene Program in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene (2006) and a Master of Science degree in Dental Hygiene (2023), both from The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Health Science at George Washington University, with an expected completion in 2027.

Courtney has 17 years of extensive experience in clinical dental hygiene, before transitioning to academia, where her teaching responsibilities and focus include Periodontology, and overall oral disease prevention. She is actively involved in developing educational materials, mentoring students, and ongoing research projects. Courtney's teaching philosophy is grounded in fostering critical thinking through student-centered active learning. Courtney encourages students to take ownership of their learning, thereby enhancing their ability to apply knowledge beyond the classroom.

As an active member of the dental community, Courtney is involved in several professional organizations, including the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), Dental Hygiene Educators of Texas (DHETTX), and the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA). She currently serves as the Programs Chair for the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists’ Association (GHDHA).

Courtney is actively engaged in faculty service at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry. She currently serves on the Dental Hygiene Admissions Committee, the Dental Hygiene Evaluation and Promotions Committee, and the Faculty Senate, where she holds the position of Secretary and represents the Senate on the Staff Relations Council.
