Dr. Srinivas Ayilavarapu was an Assistant Professor at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine for five years before joining The University of Texas at Houston School of Dentistry in 2015. He is a board-certified periodontist and specializes in clinical periodontology and implant dentistry at UT Dentists.
Dr. Ayilavarapu is actively involved in clinical and didactic teaching of dental students and residents. He is the course director of an advanced periodontal surgical course for third-year DDS students. Dr. Ayilavarapu was awarded The Nevins Teaching and Clinical Research Fellowship from American Academy of Periodontology Foundation in 2012.
During his doctoral training at Boston University, he studied the role of neutrophils in diabetes-induced inflammation in periodontal disease. He is currently exploring how diabetes and obesity affect alveolar bone healing in people receiving dental implants. Dr. Ayilavarapu’s long-term goal is to discover predictive markers of inflammation that may put people at risk for chronic periodontitis and peri-implantitis.
Dr. Ayilavarapu is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Academy for Dental Research, American Dental Education Association and the Indian Society of Periodontology.
