Dr. Harold Henson is director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at UTHealth School of Dentistry, where he also serves as a professor in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene.   

He has held numerous positions at the national, state, and local dental hygiene levels, including president of The Supreme (National) Chapter of Sigma Phi Alpha, The National Dental Hygiene Honor Society; Greater Houston Dental Hygienists' Society; Texas Dental Hygiene Educators' Association; and The University of Texas-Houston Dental Hygienists' Alumni Association. He is a past chair of the American Dental Education Association Section for Dental Hygiene Education and currently serves as an advisory board member of the National Center for Dental Hygiene Research and Practice.

Dr. Henson has served on the American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA), Councils of Education and Member Services and is active on the editorials boards of ADHA's ACCESS magazine, the Journal of Dental Hygiene and Dimensions of Dental Hygiene. He has authored and co-authored articles in various peer-reviewed journals and has been a chapter contributor to several dental hygiene textbooks.

He has earned numerous teaching awards and distinctions in the profession. In 2008, he was inducted as an inaugural member of The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston's Dean's Distinguished Teaching Scholars. He was awarded the 2009 American Dental Hygienists' Association Procter and Gamble/Oral- B Educator of the Year, and he is a fellow of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), Allied Dental Leadership Development Program.

Dr. Henson's research interests are in dental hygiene education, clinical simulation, and faculty development.
