Khairunisa Hashmani, RDH, MA, is an assistant professor in the Dental Hygiene Program of the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene at The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston (UTSD). Prior to joining the UTSD faculty in 2019, she taught at Houston Community College, Coleman Health Sciences Dental Hygiene since 2011 and at the Aga Khan University in Karachi since 2015. She also practiced clinical dental hygiene for 18 years, working in family, periodontal and pediatric offices.
Professor Hashmani currently teaches preclinical, clinical and didactic courses. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and the American Dental Education Association. Mrs. Hashmani has served on various committees for the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists' Association (GHDHA) from 2004 and served as a president in 2009-2010. She currently serves as membership chair of the GHDHA.
GHDHA chose her to receive the 2010 Esther Wilkins Award. Candidates are nominated by their peers, and the winner is selected on the basis of participation in dental hygiene activities and involvement in community or social service organizations.
