Biosketch

Dr. Khairunisa (Nisa) Hashmani is an associate professor at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry in the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene. She is an experienced clinical educator with a passion for advancing teaching standards through innovation and collaboration. She has taught Preclinical and Clinical courses, along with being the first-year Clinic Coordinator and currently teaches Educational Seminar, Educational Practicum, and Capstone for the graduate program where she focuses on integrating interactive tools into instructional design. She also helped in developing the dental hygiene curriculum at the Aga Khan University in Karachi and has been visiting faculty teaching Dental Hygiene Theory I, II, IV, and Community Dental Health voluntarily since 2015. She has also practiced clinical dental hygiene for 18 years, working in family, periodontal and pediatric offices. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Master of Arts in Psychology, and a Doctorate of Education in Professional Leadership. Her research focus is on technology-enhanced learning, Interprofessional collaborative learning, and Mental Health. She has presented at local, State, national, and international conferences. She is a member of the Dental Hygiene Educators of Texas, American Public Health Association, American Dental Hygienists’ Association and the American Dental Education Association. Currently, she is a secretary for ADEA Section Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She loves baking, painting, event planning, and spending time with her husband, and their two children.
