Biosketch
Dr. Khairunisa Hashmani is an assistant professor in the Dental Hygiene Program of the Department of Periodontics and Dental Hygiene at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston (UTSD). Before joining the UTSD faculty in 2019, she taught at Houston Community College, Coleman Health Sciences Dental Hygiene, since 2011. She also helped develop the dental hygiene curriculum at the Aga Khan University in Karachi. She has been a visiting faculty member teaching voluntarily Dental Hygiene Theory I, IV, and Community Dental Health part-time since 2015. She has also practiced Clinical dental hygiene for 18 years, working in family, periodontal, and pediatric offices. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Master of Arts in Psychology, and a Doctorate in Education. Dr. Hashmani has taught preclinical, clinical, community, pharmacology, and practice management courses for undergrad. She teaches Educational seminars, practicums, and capstones for the graduate program at UTSD. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and the American Dental Education Association. She has presented at local, State, national, and international conferences and received the Proctor & Gamble Excellence in Teaching award in 2024. She has served as president of the Greater Houston Dental Hygienists' Association and is currently the chair of the ADEA SIG of Career Development for Dental Educators. She loves baking, cooking, painting, event planning, and spending time with her family.
