Pediatric Dentistry

Two-Year Program

The first year focuses on clinical training at the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry Pediatric Dentistry Clinic. A didactic core curriculum is delivered on campus, and residents complete two one-month external rotations in pediatric medicine and general anesthesia. Each first-year resident is paired with a second-year resident for emergency call and general anesthesia cases at Memorial Hermann Hospital, the university’s affiliate hospital.

During the second year, residents complete additional external rotations in the Hemophilia Clinic, Cleft Palate Clinic, and School of Dentistry Predoctoral Clinic. When not on outside rotation, second-year residents provide care in the outpatient pediatric dentistry clinic.

Residents participate in seminars, literature review, and advanced clinical case presentations on advanced topics in pediatric dentistry. Training includes practice management and completion of a research project. The curriculum prepares graduates to pursue certification through the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

A Master of Science in Dentistry degree may be completed within the two-year program. Upon successful completion, residents are awarded a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry and may also earn the optional Master of Science in Dentistry.
