Three-Year Degree Program
The Advanced Education Program in Periodontics is a 36-month program that leads to a Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science degree. Four residents are accepted each year. The curriculum integrates didactic coursework, clinical training, and research.
Residents develop a strong foundation in basic sciences and periodontics through lectures and seminars covering classical and current literature in periodontics, implant dentistry, and occlusion. Training also includes clinical research design and biostatistics.
Clinical education includes comprehensive periodontal and implant therapy experience, regenerative procedures, and advanced surgical techniques. The program emphasizes digital dentistry with hands-on training using implant planning software, intraoral scanners, and 3D printing technology. Residents also gain proficiency in conscious sedation and complete a general anesthesia rotation. Additional clinical rotations offer interdisciplinary training and experience treating special patient populations.
A research project is required for the master’s degree and supports development of scientific reasoning and critical thinking. Upon successful completion of all program components, graduates receive a Certificate in Periodontics and a Master of Science degree and are eligible to sit for the American Board of Periodontology examination.
Program details, including tuition, curriculum, and policies, are available in the Academic Catalog.
