Alumna Maestas receives ADA's 2022 10 Under 10 Award

The American Dental Association recognized Tanya Sue Maestas, DDS, a 2018 alumna of UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, among the recipients of the 2022 10 Under 10 Award. The award honors 10 dentists who are making an impact on the profession less than 10 years after graduating from dental school.
With over 60 submissions, Maestas was selected for her impact on her community and the future of dentistry.
“It was humbling to get the call,” said Maestas.“It is an honor to be a dentist and an honor to have the opportunity to be a part of organized dentistry and be recognized for the opportunities that I’ve had."
As dental director at La Clinica De Familia Inc. in Chaparral, N.M., Maestas provides quality dental care to patients in the surrounding community. Along with her duties at La Clinica De Familia Inc., she works as a faculty member and advisor at the Texas Tech University Health Science Center El Paso Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine.
President of the American Student Dental Association from 2017-18, Maestas earned her doctorate of dental surgery in 2018, followed by an advanced education in general dentistry certificate in 2019. She is currently attending A.T. Still University College of Graduate Health Studies where she will receive a master of public health – dental emphasis with a dental public health residency certificate.
An active representative of organized dentistry, presently Maestas serves as an ADA Success speaker in addition to membership on various committees including the ADA Council on Communications, the Hispanic Dental Association Communications Committee, Texas Dental Association Council on Membership, New Dentists and Students, and the El Paso District Dental Society.
