Dental school claims UTHealth Houston Sports Day crown
The 2025 UTHealth Houston Sports Day trophy belongs to the School of Dentistry.
UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry students showcased their teamwork, energy, and school spirit Nov. 15, capturing top honors at the 2025 UTHealth Houston Sports Day.
Hosted by the Student InterCouncil as part of Wellness Week, the second annual event brought together 52 students from across UTHealth Houston to the Recreation Center fields for a day of competition, camaraderie, giveaways, and outdoor fun. Games included volleyball, kickball, tug-of-war, and a variety of open-field activities such as cornhole, spikeball, ladder golf, Giant Jenga, Giant Connect Four, and giant Pong.
The School of Dentistry shined in the finals, defeating McWilliams School of Biomedical Informatics by three points in volleyball before besting both McGovern Medical School and the School of Public Health in tug-of-war.
Last year’s champion, McGovern Medical School, passed the Sports Day trophy to the dental students, granting them campus bragging rights for the year. The trophy is on display on the fourth floor.
“It was fantastic to see students take a break from their studies to enjoy the beautiful weather and represent their school,” said Viana Phan, president of Student InterCouncil. “Every team showed great camaraderie and spirit.”
