Dental school shows support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in pink

Each Wednesday in October, the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry community wore pink to show their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Students, residents, faculty, and staff across the school joined in the effort by donning pink attire to raise awareness, honor those affected by breast cancer, and promote the importance of early detection and ongoing research.
Observed globally every October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month aims to increase education, encourage screenings, and provide vital support for patients and survivors. Since the campaign’s beginnings in 1985, awareness efforts have helped reduce breast cancer deaths in the U.S. by 44%, thanks to earlier detection and advancements in treatment.
Breast cancer awareness began in 1985 as a week-long campaign and has since evolved into a month-long event. The pink ribbon, now an international symbol of hope and solidarity, became associated with the cause in 1992 after Estée Lauder executive Evelyn Lauder and SELF magazine editor Alexandra Penney distributed pink ribbons in honor of the campaign.
By wearing pink each Wednesday, the School of Dentistry community stood together to raise awareness and reaffirm their commitment to compassion, prevention, and the fight against breast cancer.
