Throughout October, dental hygiene students from UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry marked National Dental Hygiene Month with a series of outreach events designed to promote oral health.

The activities kicked off Oct. 3 with a lunchtime tabling event in the lobby of Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, where nursing students received personalized oral health instruction and complimentary goodie bags.

On Oct. 18, students participated in the Native American Health Center’s Trunk or Treat, offering oral health guidance and nutritional counseling to families in the community.

Rounding out the month, the Tooth Fairy made special appearances between the first-floor lobby and the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at the School of Dentistry, delighting visitors with treats and educational resources.

“Together, these events underscored the importance of preventive care and highlighted the role of dental hygienists in supporting whole-body wellness — one smile at a time,” said Assistant Professor Hannah Medrano, MEd, BSDH, RDH.
