School of Dentistry team participates in 2026 PerioDash
Now in its 12th year, the event raises funds supporting the foundation and their mission of advancing periodontal education programs while promoting awareness of periodontal and peri-implant disease.
Students, faculty, staff, and family members from the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry gathered on Oct. 3 for the 2026 PerioDash 5K, joining participants across the country in support of periodontal education and awareness of periodontal and peri-implant diseases.
PerioDash is an annual 5K run and walk organized by the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation. Now in its 12th year, the event raises funds supporting the foundation and their mission of advancing periodontal education programs while promoting awareness of the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of periodontal and peri-implant disease.
Approximately 40 participants from the School of Dentistry community took part in this year’s race, which was coordinated by Madison Miller, DDS, an American Academy of Periodontology Foundation student ambassador.
“PerioDash is a great way to bring people together while raising awareness about diseases that affect millions of people,” Miller said. “We had a great turnout this year, and it was encouraging to see students, faculty, staff, and family members come together in support of periodontal health.”
To maintain inclusivity for individuals of all fitness levels, participants were invited to run or walk the 5K course, providing an opportunity for members of the School of Dentistry community to connect outside of the classroom and clinic.
The top three finishers were second-year DDS student Jewel Wong (first), second-year Bill Huynh (second), and second-year Vi Pham (third). The winners received gift cards recognizing their accomplishments.
