Students participate in inaugural Valentine’s Day Talent Show

UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry students took a break from their studies and clinical responsibilities on Feb. 7 to watch and participate in the inaugural Valentine’s Day Talent Show, hosted by the Office of Student and Academic Affairs.

Performances included:

  • Skylar Mai, fourth-year dental student, solo guitar performance
    “I’m in Love With You”
  • Sarah O’Connor, fourth-year dental student, solo vocal performance
    “At Last”
  • Kevin Chan, second-year dental student, solo violin performance
    “Recitativo and Scherzo”
  • Suchi Chowdhary, third-year dental student, solo vocal performance
    “Vienna”
  • Green Clinic and Friends, dental student group vocal performance
    “With a Little Help from My Friends”
  • Molar Melodies, faculty, staff, and student group vocal performance
    “Can’t Help Falling in Love”, and “All You Need is Love”

The event, held in the Denton A. Cooley, MD and Ralph C. Cooley, DDS University Life Center, was the first of its kind and offered a rare outlet of live artistic expression inside the School of Dentistry walls.

Members of the ensemble Green Clinic and Friends include Elizabeth Chong, Caroline Gekas, Nour Hilal, Alan Ho, Austin Iturralde, Sarah O’Connor, Stanton Pruitt, and Tarshya Warner.

The Molar Melodies, who debuted at the All-idays Breakfast in December, include director Michelle Thompson, DDS; faculty and staff members David Fray, DDS, MBA; Mona Hannoun; Khairunisa Hashmani, RDH, EdD; Grace Huang, DMD, MMSc; Fiyinfolu Kolade, BDS, MPH; Harold Kolodney Jr., DMD; Sally Sheng, DDS, MS;  LaQuietha “Rashay” Strambler; Marcela Vega; and students Hanan Abdelgilil; Julian Fernandez; and Darby Johnson.
