Valentine's Day Talent Show entertains dental school audience

Designed as a community-centered gathering, the event, held in the Cooley University Life Center, offered students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to share live artistic performances in a setting outside of their academic routines.

UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry students took a break from their studies and clinical responsibilities on Feb. 13 to perform in or attend the second annual Valentine’s Day Talent Show, hosted by the Office of Student and Academic Affairs.

Master of ceremonies Harold Kolodney, DMD — known for the afternoon as “DJ Dr. K” — and Michelle Thompson, DDS, welcomed attendees and introduced the judges before the talent competition began

Performances included:

• Rebecca Nguyen, fourth-year dental student, piano and vocal performance
  “Coldplay Medley”
• Kelsie Malit, second-year dental student, and Eric Peng, first-year dental student, piano and cello performance
  “The Swan”
• Yousef Hilal, second-year dental student, with Thomas Harrison, DDS, MBA, and Harold Kolodney, DMD, piano and vocal performance
  “Wichita Lineman”
• The Final Impression — Tarshya Warner, fourth-year dental student, and Elizabeth Chong, fourth-year dental student — vocal duet
  “L-O-V-E”
• Elliot Paul Garza, first-year dental hygiene student, solo guitar performance
  “Bleed”
• Maryam William, second-year dental student, and Kelsie Malit, second-year dental student, guitar and vocal duet performance
  “Linger”

The program began with a performance of “Seasons of Love” by the School of Dentistry’s Molar Melodies, setting the stage for the variety of acts that followed, and concluded with a skit based on “My Favorite Things,” performed by second-year dental students and the Green Clinic Singers.
