The Office of Research at UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry supports, coordinates, and advances clinical, basic, and translational research for faculty, trainees, and students. The office guides investigators through every stage of the research lifecycle — funding, proposals, award setup, compliance, project management, and closeout — while maintaining shared laboratories and fostering collaboration across the Texas Medical Center.
Key Responsibilities & Areas of Focus
- Research Development & Collaboration: Consultations for study design, biostatistics, bioethics, and epidemiology; connections across the Texas Medical Center; support for Center for Craniofacial Research and the John M. Powers, PhD, Center for Biomaterials and Biomimetics.
- Pre-Award (Grants & Contracts): Assistance with funding identification, proposal preparation (e.g., National Institutes of Health requirements, budgets, subawards, biosketches), routing and submission.
- Award Setup & Post-Award Management: Award acceptance, account setup, allowability reviews, effort certification, progress/financial reporting, and timely closeout.
- Compliance & Training: Guidance on IRB/CPHS, IACUC, and safety committees (biosafety/radiation/chemical); conflict of interest; required research training (e.g., CITI).
- Clinical & Translational Support: Resources, forms, and navigation for clinical studies and institutional processes.
- Laboratory & Operations Support: Access to cores and equipment, training and lab safety coordination, and logistical support (ordering, travel, badge access).
- Statistical Support Services: Consultations for research design and data analysis (please allow ~five business days).
