Jaramillo lectures abroad in Mexico, Italy

UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry’s Department of Endodontics has been well-represented abroad in recent months.
Leading the way has been Professor David E. Jaramillo, DDS, who has ventured to Mexico and Italy on several occasions.
Most recently, during Spring Break, Jaramillo went south to Oaxaca, Mexico, where he presented in Spanish to the Endodontic Graduate Program at La Universidad Benito Juárez de Oaxaca across March 14-15. He lectured on root canal microbiology, the presence of Biofilm inside the root canal, and the latest trends in the irrigation of the root canal system.
The trip was especially noteworthy for Jaramillo, as his mentor, Alberto R. Arriola, DDS, also participated, lecturing on pulp reaction to caries and diagnosis in endodontics, and he got to enjoy the city’s scenic sites and exotic cuisine, such as chapulines.
In February, Jaramillo was invited by the Italian Academy of Endodontics to present at the 1st International Congress’ “Endodontics Goes Digital” conference in Bologna, Italy. He was among 23 speakers across Italy, Europe, and the U.S.
As part of the pre-congress courses, Jaramillo presented “The Future Endodontic Research and Its Impact on Clinical Practice” on Feb. 22. During the conference, he presented “Evidence-Based Endodontics” on Feb. 24, discussing his research experiences and new potential research venues in the endodontics field.
In his downtime between presentations, Jaramillo visited historic architecture such as the Bologna Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Peter, and the Parma Cathedral.
Across January 25-26, Jaramillo and Assistant Professor Ji Wook Jeong, DMD, MSD, presented a 16-hour hands-on course on endodontic microsurgery at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México Escuela Nacional de Estudios Superiores Unidad León in León, Mexico.
In October 2023, Jaramillo presented on multisonic irrigation, also known as the GentleWave® Procedure, during the International Academy of Innovative Dentistry’s 1st International Congress in Rome.
“The main reason I lecture abroad is that I enjoy the opportunity to share what I’ve learned in practice and research with my colleagues around the world,” said Jaramillo. “It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and go to new places, enriching my own experiences as well.”
For Jaramillo, who lectures abroad several times a year, these invitations aren’t lost on him.
“There’s a lot of pride for me to be able to represent UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry and the world-renowned Texas Medical Center,” he said.
Jaramillo will next visit Greece in May for the 2024 Roots Summit, where he will serve as the conference’s scientific chairman.
Jaramillo’s main research focus is on the irrigation of the root canal system. He has dictated more than 150 conferences worldwide, published over 29 peer-reviewed papers, and has written eight book chapters, including one in Spanish and one in Portuguese.
Jaramillo joined the UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry faculty in 2014. He has been teaching non-stop since 1990 when he originally began on a part-time basis.
Jaramillo earned his dental degree and endodontics certification from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara Dental School.
